DAY 1

Mackay to Mt Britton

Travel inland from Mackay along the Peak Downs Highway and take a right on to the Suttor Development Road, just before you arrive in Nebo. Follow the signs to the abandoned mining town of Mt Britton. Only remnants are left, including gold mining machinery. Enjoy a night under the stars at the Mt Britton campground after a day exploring the historical town.

DAY 2

Mt Britton to Lake Elphinstone

Explore further inland along the Suttor Development Road towards Lake Elphinstone, a natural lake which once supported the nearby town of Elphinstone, long since disappeared. A popular spot to fish, kayak, water ski and camp, this lake will have you entertained for hours. Free camping and amenities available.

DAY 3

Lake Elphinstone to Clermont

Wake up early for a day of exploring. First drive to Nebo to experience the heritage-listed Nebo pub, built in 1862. The Nebo Museum is also well worth a look for an insight into the country town.

As you arrive in Moranbah, follow the one-kilometre Federation Walk at the town’s entrance to the well-known Big Red Rhino Bucket – a representation of Moranbah’s rich mining industry.

Make your way to Clermont for the afternoon, a town rich in gold mining history. On your drive, you will pass by the Gemini Peaks – a stand out in the wide open plains of Isaac. Stop to hike up Wolfang Peak for a photo at the top and panoramic views. An unforgettable hike for those keen on adventure.

DAY 4

Clermont to Theresa Creek Dam

Your final stop in Isaac is Theresa Creek Dam. Located off the Peakvale Road, the dam is fully stocked with barramundi, golden perch and redclaw crayfish. If you want to fish, obtain a permit at the dam kiosk. Otherwise, set up camp and relax by the waters edge as you take in the natural surrounds.
